الهيكل التنظيمي للقسم
The Department of Horticulture was established with the establishment of the College of Agriculture and Marshes, in accordance with the letter of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Planning and Follow-up Department No. TM 3/2183 dated 5/11/2006 and University Order No. 7/4 5/2818 dated 5/16/2006.
When it was established, it was called the Department of Plant Production. Later, it was transformed into the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, where the thirteenth batch of graduate students graduated. The department’s achievements continued, and efforts were crowned with success by opening graduate studies in the department. It was the first department to open graduate studies in the college, and the first batch was accepted in the academic year 2016-2017, with 6 students.
Agriculture plays a significant and fundamental role in the world’s economies, particularly horticultural crops and vegetables, as they are essential and strategic crops used in human food, such as fruit trees, various types of vegetables, as well as ornamental and medicinal plants, among others
It constitutes one of the most important tributaries of the national economy in many countries of the world, and these countries strive to develop the cultivation of these crops in various ways with the aim of supporting the national economy with its resources to serve their people and achieve prosperity and food security. Dhi Qar Governorate is one of the agricultural governorates in Iraq that is famous for the cultivation of field crops in addition to large areas that can be exploited and cultivated with several crops
.. To achieve self-sufficiency in the governorate, in addition to the diversity of water sources in Dhi Qar Governorate, which can be relied upon to increase horizontal or vertical expansion in the cultivation of horticultural crops
It is essential to pay proper attention to its development for the better. Hence, the establishment of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at our college, to contribute to the graduation of agricultural cadres equipped with modern agricultural sciences in the field of horticulture and landscape architecture, thus contributing to the development and revitalization of this sector in this particular area

1- Providing air-conditioned classrooms and laboratories equipped with the various specialized devices and materials necessary for practical lessons.

2- Introducing modern educational methods to clearly convey information, allowing students to better understand it.

3- Providing opportunities to develop teaching and learning staff by holding seminars, workshops, and continuing education courses.

4- Cultivating model fields and developing existing ones to provide the necessary observation and fieldwork requirements to develop students’ skills and provide them with agricultural expertise.

5- Motivating faculty and students to conduct applied scientific research by providing the department with the necessary resources, allocating land and space for this research.

6- Ensure the publication of a seasonal or annual newsletter highlighting research conducted by students.
7- Participate in the private sector by providing scientific and applied consultations for their agricultural production.
8- Work to develop the department, open evening classes, and offer postgraduate studies (PhD).

Preparing agricultural engineers equipped with knowledge and skills, keeping abreast of the latest scientific developments in their field, and graduates specializing in agricultural sciences who contribute to the country’s development.
Developing solid scientific curricula and conducting applied scientific research that serves the agricultural and horticultural landscape.
Focusing on postgraduate research plans and directing them toward modernity, authenticity, and innovation in modern agricultural methods.
Graduating specialized cadres with higher degrees and empowering society to build an integrated civilization.
Meeting the needs of the public and private agricultural sectors with highly qualified personnel.
Encouraging research programs and organizing participation in workshops, seminars, and scientific conferences.
Encouraging outstanding students in agricultural sciences to work as teaching assistants in the department and become future faculty members.
Achieving quality and academic accreditation and adhering to standards to improve grades and advance academic standards.
Laboratories: Plant Physiology Laboratory and Plant Anatomy Laboratory. Horticultural facilities include: a wooden canopy, a group of greenhouses, and a vegetable field.
